When deciding whether to make the change, keep in mind the following information:
- The Disenrollment Period lasts from Jan. 1 to Feb. 14.
- The change in your health plan will become effective the following month.
- If you decide to switch to Original Medicare, you may not be able to buy a Medigap plan at that time. Medigap plans are supplemental insurance that help cover the co-pays and deductibles of Original Medicare. Whether you can purchase a Medigap plan when you switch depends on where you live. For more information, contact your state SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program).
- You may switch to Original Medicare with or without a prescription drug plan, also known as Medicare Part D.
